The Best Pie Shops in the Bay

Pie is a quintessential holiday staple – Thanksgiving, Christmas, Pi Day, honestly any day is a good day for pie. Whether you're digging pumpkin, pecan, apple, late-season berry, or rhubarb, these top-tier pie shops have got it all. I've scoured the corners of the Bay Area and have compiled a special list that even your grandma would be down for.

SAN FRANCISCO

Three Babes Bakeshop (Multiple Locations)

Lifelong best friends Anna and Lenore have been perfecting their pies for the last 15 years. They're currently dishing up their mouth-watering pies for takeaway across all locations and are even offering delivery. Did I mention they have gluten-free and vegan options? Get on it!

Tartine Bakery (Multiple Locations)

Okay so we're cheating a little here, but Tartine Bakery offers a seasonal pie and multiple tart options. Didn't you know that tarts and pies are cousins? Try their pumpkin or pecan tart and tell me different.

Revenge Pies

There's a famous quote that says, "the best revenge is to smile and move on." Well, that's obviously wrong. The best revenge is Revenge Pies. They don't have a storefront yet (fingers crossed) so the only way to get a slice is at Casement's or Macondray.

Peasant Pies Cafe & Catering (Multiple Locations)

What's better than a slice of pie? A handheld pie. They have three locations in SF; Mission Bay, Inner Sunset, and Noe Valley, all worthy of stopping by for a snack. Enjoy sweet, savory, and vegan options

Wholesome Bakery (299 Divisadero St // NoPa)

All vegan with gluten-free, low-glycemic, soy-free, paleo options, and absolutely delicious – Wholesome Bakery is hard not to love. Snag your choice of holiday pies from apple rosette, pecan pie, or pumpkin cheezecake.

Butter Love Bakeshop (3717 Balboa St // San Francisco)

Why do we eat pie at the end of each meal? Because we always save the best for last. You butter make the right decision and head to Butter Love Bakeshop. Either savory or sweet, you're in for a treat!

 EAST BAY

Sweet Adeline Bakeshop (3350 Adeline Street // Berkeley)

This Berkeley gem serves up everything in small batches using the best local, organic ingredients from the Berkeley Farmer's Market. A neighborhood bakeshop that will make you treasure the simple sweetness of life, you can count on Sweet Adeline to deliver every time.

Crixa Cakes (2748 Adeline Street // Berkeley)

Also located in Berkeley, Crixa Cakes has been specializing in Hungarian, Russian, Central European, and American baked goods since 1998. Current offerings include Amaretti Cream Cake, Apple Cake, Ginger Cake, Pavé Vergiate, Pumpkin Pie, and Tiramasu to savor. A few are already sold out for pre-order, but they'll have select, non-reserved items for pickup on November 24!

Niles Pie Company (932990 Alvarado-Niles Rd // Union City)

One life lesson, surround yourself with good company. Niles Pie Company to be exact. You can find them at their brick-and-mortar in Union City, or around town at one of the Bay's many farmer's markets. They're offering hella pies for Thanksgiving pick up this year, or get yours delivered ($200 minimum).

Lois the Pie Queen (851 60th St // Emeryville)

This Emeryville spot serves up pie so good you'll want to keep it a secret. A down-to-earth, homey dinner, Lois's dishes some of the best traditional pies including peach cobbler and key lime pie to die for.

Pietissierie (Multiple Locations)

Slinging some of the most intricate and visually-appealing pies in the Bay, Pietisserie is one to keep in mind this holiday season. From pecan to pink apple to ube, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

NORTH BAY

Petaluma Pie Company (125 Petaluma Blvd. N. suite B // Petaluma)

Opened in December 2010, Petaluma Pie Company is owned and operated by pie enthusiasts Angelo Sacerdote and Lina Hoshino. Their farm to table operation takes advantage of the abundance that Sonoma County offers and leaves nobody empty-bellied. They specialize in savory hand pies (spicy and vegetarian), chilled pies, and seasonal sweet selections.

Noble Folk Ice Cream & Pie Bar (Multiple Locations)

This Healdsburg eatery combines French pastry techniques with Scandinavian and Japanese flavors. Though it may sound odd, the pies are nothing short of amazing. Handcrafted and created from centuries-old recipes, the pies reflect the heritage and community of this quaint town. Dive into their Peanut Butter Mousse Pie or a Mississippi Mud Pie and I guarantee you'll be making many weekend trips up to Healdsburg this Winter!

Sweetie Pies (520 Main St. // Napa)

Since 2000, Sweetie Pies has been baking for Napa and the greater Bay Area delivering sweet sugary satisfaction to all. While the brick-and-mortar cafe offers an array of baked goods, it's their award-winning pies that the locals come for when visiting them at the Historic Napa Mill.

SOUTH BAY + PENINSULA

Heidi's Pies (1941 S El Camino Real // San Mateo)

We're talking classic here. Heidi's Pies are everything you look for in a holiday dessert with options like lemon meringue, banana cream, pumpkin cream cheese, and the list goes on. Visit them at their shop in San Mateo, or pop by their pie booth at a Bay Area farmers market.

Woodside Bakery (325 Sharon Park Drive // Menlo Park)

One of the few European-style bakeries in the South Bay, Woodside Bakery is offering a bounty of seasonal offerings that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Choose from old fashion apple, dutch apple, pumpkin, pecan, boysenberry, blueberry, strawberry rhubarb, and more made fresh every single day.

Peter's Bakery (3108 Alum Rock Ave // San Jose)

One of San Jose's not-so-hidden gems since 1936, Peter's Bakery is the place to be for all occasions. With a large selection of pies ranging from fruity to sweet, you have found all the treasures here. The wait can be long sometimes, but trust, it's worth it. No lies, just pies!
